Villagers ban open defecation

DAPORIJO, Sept 04: The villagers of Menga and Rading under Taliha Circle moving one step closer towards realising the objective of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) have completely banned habitual open defecation in their villages. The decision was taken during an awareness programme organised by Department of PHE and WS under SBA.
The resource persons during the awareness programme explained in detail about the importance of maintaining good sanitary practice in order to protect themselves from many avoidable diseases.
The villagers were distributed sanitary items like hand wash, bucket, mug and water filter etc.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Komkar Dulom and Executive Engineer (PHED) Nyapung Konia appreciated the villagers for initiating such noble step and encouraged others to follow suit.
Stolen idol recovered
TAWANG, Sept 04: The idol of Jowa Thonga Dondup, which was stolen from Serteng Gompa of Socktsen village under Zemithang circle, was recovered from Guwahati by Lumla Police.
Lumla Police after registering an FIR filed by the ASM of Socksten village regarding theft of the idol, constituted a team and launched investigation under the close supervision of CI S Norbu, OC SB K Norbu and Deputy SP PN Thongdok.
The team led by SI A Mandal was stationed at Guwahati and finally succeeded in recovering the idol on Sept 2.
The idol is believed to be older than Tawang Monastery and Gorsam Stupa.

ITANAGAR, Sept 04: Former member of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission Jathi Pulu called upon the teachers to discharge their duty as a member of noble profession with utmost sincerity and dedication.
Addressing more than 200 teachers from various private schools at the AAPSA-
Dr. VN Sharma, SLO, NSS, lauded the teachers for the yeomen services they render to the State.
"Teachers are the harbinger of all that are noble in the society," he said. Quoting from Rabindranath Tagore, Sharma exhorted the teachers to consider themselves the luckiest persons in the society.

NNSPSU allege anomaly in recruitment
ITANAGR, Sep 04: The Nyapin Nyobia Sangram Phassang Students' Union (NNSPSU) has alleged that several posts of accountant under residential school, SSA Kurung Kumey were recruited without any notification on December 06, 2014 by the Education department in Kurung Kumey district.
According to the advertisement published on September 11, 2014, the vacant posts for residential schools published were part time teachers, permanent teachers and wardens, but the accountant posts under the same were not published, it said. The union also claimed that the recruited candidates did not qualify the educational qualification criteria for the post of accountant as they were only Class XII pass.
The union has written a complaint letter to the Project Director SSA and sought his intervention into advertising the vacant posts of accountants in the newspaper within 15 days and conducting fresh exam. It has also demanded strict action against the authorities involved in the act.
Road blocked in Silsango circle
ITANAGAR, Sep 04: All Silsango Circle Youth Association has informed that the road to Nakar village via Pilla, Rugo, Nyopang, Arung, Silsango, Sarchgai, Mate, Kussuk and Moya Ambam under Mengio sub division has been blocked by landslide. ITANAGAR, Sep 04: In all, 90 youths from Wakka and Pongchau circles of Longding district took part in a Department of Skill Development and Employment Generation sponsored capacity building training on basic computer under Border Area Development Programme which concluded at Don Bosco School, Longding on Thursday.

Raj Bhavan takes note of garbage problem
Rajkhowa asks for garbage collection and disposal in Itanagar
ITANAGAR, Sept 04: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh JP Rajkhowa has taken note of the problems related to garbage in the state capital.
Expressing concern with regard to garbage collection and disposal in Itanagar, the Governor called upon all stakeholders to shoulder responsibility to rise to the expectations of the people. Referring to the newspaper reports and photographs, he said that concerted efforts should be made by all stakeholders including Itanagar Municipal Council members, commercial establishment and industries.
The Governor opined that every house and shop should contribute towards this campaign and legal framework must be put in place. He also suggested for levying fine on the violators, which he said is practiced in many countries renowned for cleanliness.
He said this while reviewing the initiatives taken by different stakeholders for success of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) at Raj Bhawan, here today.

The Governor called upon the people to do their best to keep the city and town clean, and that the message must go to the districts. He wished that twenty best known personalities, including sportspersons, popular singers and actors, social workers be involved in the campaign as ambassadors. Suggesting for optimum utilisation of vehicles for garbage collection and revival of recycling plant near Itanagar, the Governor suggested that efforts be made for educating the people on segregating the biodegradable and non degradable wastes at the source. He also suggested for exploring alternative dumping grounds away from the roadside.
Pointing that many rivers and streams in the State, particularly in the state capital have been polluted due to dumping of waste and garbage directly into the water bodies, the Governor called for proper and strong action through sewage management procedure to save the aquatic lives of the State.
Taking part in the discussion, State Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi said that major stakeholders, including the Urban Local Bodies, Departments of Public Health Engineering Department, Education and Rural Development must be proactive. While stating that many cities have privatised the cleaning work, the Chief Secretary suggested for workshop involving all stakeholders.

Efforts on to reduce use of plastic bag
ZIRO, Sept 04: More than 400 reusable bags were handed over to the Bazaar Welfare Committee and Trade and Commerce Chamber, Hapoli by the Lower Subansiri District Administration.
An initiative by Kanki Darang, Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri it envisions reduction of usage of plastic bags. These bags would be made available with the vegetable and raw meat vendors. A customer could use these bags and return it to the vendor during the next visit.
Darang requested the people to come forward to support and sponsor this venture. A little effort from every individual can make a massive difference, he said. He also directed the vendors to wear aprons, headwear, gloves and masks while on work.
The District Administration is relentlessly trying to reduce the usage of plastic in the plateau and keeping it clean. Notices have been served earlier, few shopkeepers penalized and random checking drives conducted.
The listing of the Apatani Cultural landscape in the World Heritage Site has put Ziro on the world map. The people of the plateau will have to decide what memories people carry back with them after visiting Ziro, he added.

It demanded for creation of independent commissioner, secretary, joint director, deputy director and other ministerial staffs and establishment of Border Affairs Office at Itanagar for effective implementation of govt policies pertaining to border affairs in the state.
It also demanded the govt to execute BADP scheme under the guidance of Director of Border Affairs instead of the department of Planning, claiming that there was no proper implementation of BADP scheme under the Planning department.
Referring to various other points in favour of their demands, the Union further appealed the state govt to utilise the AAPBn personnel to tackle law and order problems of border areas instead of using them for the security of officers, VIPs and in VVIP duties.
The union had launched two phases of bandh calls on January 29 and March 4 last against the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the state govt towards their demands.
ITANAGAR, Sep 04: Condolences messages kept pouring in from all sections of the society following the death of Binnya Yanga, Padmashree to share pain and grief with her family members.
Binny Yanga, who was lovingly called as 'Anne Maya' by all, was mother of all poor, orphans and destitute as she gave them lease of life by bringing them up and giving them shelter, said State Bharatiya Janata Party in its condolence message.
"She was a social worker par excellence and her philanthropic activities were widely recognised by all," the party said and termed her death a great loss for the country and the state in particular.
While expressing grief and sorrow over her death, Woman and Child Development, Social Justice and Empowerment etc. Minister Wanglin Lowangdong, said, "In his passing away we have lost a notable social worker, a pioneer, an imminent entrepreneur and a very good human being."
She will always be remembered by the people of the state for her immense contribution to the betterment of the society, said Lowangdong.
The Arunachal Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (APMCC) has also expressed shock and grief at the sudden demise of Yanga.
"She was a great asset of our state and her philanthropic works will remain a source of inspiration for all of us in the days to come. She will remain in the hearts of people of the state for her selfless services rendered for betterment of the society," said the APMCC in its condolence message.
Conveying its deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family of Yanga, the Arunachal Indigenous Tribes' Forum (AITF) said the vacuum she left behind will be difficult to fill.
Meanwhile, AAPSU has also deeply mourned the sudden demise of Padmashree Binny Yanga who died at Guwahati on Wednesday. In a condolence message to her bereaved family members, AAPSU recalled Late Yanga for dedicating her life for underprivileged and downtrodden people. The union also added that contribution and supreme sacrifices made by Late Yanga would remain ever unparalleled.
Describing Yanga as Mother Teresa of Arunachal, All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) in its condolence message said that she has dedicated her entire life for the welfare of the oppressed people, orphan and destitute women of the state and served them until her last breath.
The vacuum created by her death and in the field she worked will be very difficult to fill. ANSU said and termed her death a great and irreparable for the state.
Women Welfare Organisation, East Kameng described her as an example of promoting values that are important to humanity.
The rank and file of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state unit deeply mourned the death of Binny Yanga. Late Yanga worked for the weaker sections of the society in various capacities. The people of the state have lost one of the pioneer social workers in her death. She will be always remembered by the people of the state and the Nation as a whole for her dedicated service, the NCP said in a message.
Councillor of Ward 24, Lishi Yapu has also condoled the demise of Binny Yanga. "She was a stalwart in the field of social activism and had worked tirelessly for the downtrodden class and for empowerment of the women in our state. I use to regularly interact with her and seek her views on various important matters. I will miss her presence," said Yapu in a release.

Along with the transiting time, the PHCs and CHCs of Changlang district are also turning inglorious for pioneering the 'Referral Trend', whether one is suffering from minor or major ailment, medical officers are alleged of scribbling the referral instead of 'remedy' that too by simply throwing a cursory glance upon the patient(s).
In place of tending to the sick and needy, they find it easier to refer the patients to private hospitals somewhere in Assam where our poor villagers often get robbed by the insatiable white coats and their greedy staff. The referral trend might have lightened the local doctor's load but it has multiplied the poor patient's miseries, compelling them to live a borrowed life, forever.
It hurts to heed the painful anecdotes of the ailing locals which they experience during the course of their treatment at those expensive hospitals in nearby Assam. A majority of them claim of being mistreated, misbehaved and manipulated.
Apparently, it is the ramification of the referral trend that our rural folks are
not only losing their faith on the PHCs and CHCs but also they are coerced to gravitate
towards the primitive substitute -

Bad precedent
The top brass of the RSS, its various affiliates and the BJP today concluded three days deliberation on challenges facing the Narendra Modi government and steps required to tackle them. During the three day meet, union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Manohar Parrikar, Venkaiah Naidu, Anant Kumar besides party chief Amit Shah and some other ministers made key presentations before the RSS top brass.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat presided over the meeting which was attended by representatives of 15 Sangh associates, including Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Swadeshi Jagaran Manch and Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangathan. Even though RSS is considered as a social organization but likes of Vishwa Hindu Parishad is pure communal organization representing one particular community. It is unfortunate that ministers are interacting with such kind of organization. Also one of the topics of discussion during the met was supposedly growth of Muslim population in India. Citizens of India are battling many problems including poverty, bad governance and unemployment. The discussion should be held on these issues and not on growth of the population of one particular religious group. BJP government is setting a very bad precedent.

If a country has to make notable progress in various arenas it needs well qualified, dedicated teachers, who can inspire ordinary students to dream extraordinary things. A good teacher is the one who makes students realise that exams and grades are temporary but only education is permanent & in fact life is the most difficult exam. Teachers are the most responsible and important people of society because their efforts affect the fate of entire world. The Government should take adequate measures to make the profession of teaching more attractive. Here's wishing all teachers Happy Teacher's Day.

Provide basic facilities
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to convey my message to the MLA, Liromoba constituency, DDSE West Siang district, and Director Elementary Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
Lower primary school, Poyom needs immediate attention. Since the 80s, the school has remained same with no infrastructure development even though the intake is increasing day by day. There is no teacher quarter, water connectivity, and proper boundary wall and toilet facilities. RTE, Act 2009 provides for free and compulsory educations to the children between the ages of six to fourteen years but department itself contradict the Act, without giving aforesaid facilities.
Basic formative education is provided during Primary schooling so they need all the facilities the government can give.
I request the concerned authority to take immediate action before it’s too late.

The nuisances of back door entrants

A large number of state govt employees, mostly non-
There are lot of people who are proud of their jobs and are hard working. They value money and by dint of their hard work they got the jobs. But there are also group of employees, most of whom joined govt jobs via back door entry. They have no appreciation or respect for their jobs. They are here to just draw their salaries and are not inclined to improve their work culture. They do not make any effort to learn anything from their seniors or juniors.
Many clerical and supporting staffs, who are mostly back door entrants come to office just for a day; to collect their salary. They gossip and when they get bored they will play ladoo or sale their local product.
Currently, most famous is selling housie ticket to other staffs.
Because of these backdoor entrants in govt departments, the state govt is wasting precious money and time and thousands of hardworking, sincere and deserving local people of our state are deprived of jobs. This group of staffs are like virus, slowly and gradually eating the govt departments.
We need to end the backdoor appointments in Govt departments. Otherwise, we will face very big problem in near future.
All the experienced senior employees, whether tribal or non tribal will retire from their job in future. Therefore whole responsibility will be on upcoming generation to run the departments. So, I beg them to learn whatever is possible from their senior colleagues so that Govt Department do not suffer in near future.

The roads
Dear Editor,
I travel daily to university and what I am about to tell you is what I see daily.
So tired of the reckless condition of the road, thinking of attending class makes me feel bored.
Its not the lecturers I do not like, but the pathetic condition of the road is almost killing my backbone and my bike.
I ride too slow leaving an hour before my class starts but the potholes filled with mud always makes me and my bike dance.
I turn my bike here and there skilfully but slipping here as I try to avoid the mud and the dirt ahead.
Many times I see people fall off their bikes; some elders, teenagers, some not so young or old.
We try to avoid the spilling water, the mud, the dirt and the rain, but somehow some fools always finds a way to irritate us again and again.
The sunshine gives us mouth full of dust,while the rain showers us with a whole lot of mud.
It would be better if we get a better conditioned road.
It’s not always the two wheelers who are at default
